Message from the President

Greetings fellow BMETS members, once again, I am forced to….errr …proud to serve as your intrepid leader. Actually, I just wanted the free meals and cool shirt. Anyway, on with the show.

1983. The last episode of M*A*S*H aired, Sally Ride was the first American woman in space, the U.S. invaded Grenada (without Clint Eastwood), Dr. Barney Clark received the first artificial heart and the Baltimore Medical Engineers and Technicians Society (BMETS) held our very first meeting at the Holiday Inn on Cromwell Bridge Road. Whew, for those of us who have been here since the beginning it is hard to believe it has been 20 years since we launched our organization. At this point I would like to acknowledge with much gratitude our three founding members, Ethan Hertz, Frank Weinberg and Rick Schrewinker, I will be updating you on their whereabouts in future newsletters.

Our profession has undergone profound changes in this time period, the days of electrical safety tests every 4 months has gone the way of the Tyrannosaurus, as we focus our efforts on managing technology to a higher degree. Additionally, we are faced with the task of meeting an increased work load with a shrinking labor force. I am confident that BMET's will prove to be a valuable resource in dealing with these challenges in the coming year and I look forward to working with all of you.

I am pleased to announce that a very special meeting will be held at the Baltimore Science Center on October 15th in celebration of our 20th year. The meeting will be sponsored by our good friends from American I.V. Don't miss this one, more to come. Please, RENEW, ATTEND, PARTICIPATE.
See you soon.
